2 Exercises to Avoid
If you want a good night, then avoid two of these old school moves. Good Mornings: Although I can't say I've seen these moves done in quite some time, I know that growing up I saw plenty of pictures of how the move should be done. If I had more then 3 wishes left in this lamp, I wish that somebody would go find every book and every website with this exercise and cross it out with a Sharpie pen. I have a very good friend, who will remain nameless, that gave me another tidbit of advice. He's been instrumental in helping me train legs. I've never pushed myself so hard. So when he gives advice, I know it's coming from a reliable source that's much better then any scientific study. ...

Insights into Pilates Equipment
For anyone with even a remote interest in Pilates, the equipment used for training is extremely interesting. With exciting names like the Reformer and the Cadillac, how could one not be interested? While there are literally dozens of individual pieces of equipment and props for use in Pilates training, we will be focusing on two of the more popular ones. The idea for the Reformer was born when the founder of the Pilates system, Joseph Pilates, was interned in England during the First World War. He spent much of his internment training investigators from Scotland Yard in the Pilates method, and working to find ways to help rehabilitate bed-ridden patients suffering from the...

Elliptical Exerciser

Author:
Gary Gresham

Several years ago elliptical exercisers were introduced to the fitness world and have since become very popular and very sophisticated. Over 6 million people now use elliptical exercisers as part of their regular routine.

Elliptical exerciser technology is relatively new. The word elliptical means oval shaped. The basic design of the elliptical exerciser uses oval pedaling motion for a smooth, elliptical movement that provides a low impact form of weight bearing exercise.

You begin by standing with your feet firmly planted in the movable footpads. The advantage of your feet being stationary makes this a smooth and non-jarring motion that is unique to the elliptical exerciser. Grab the handles and add the upper body movement for a total body workout. It is easy to learn and fun to use.

Elliptical exercisers provide a total body workout that is safe for beginners and will even challenge the more advanced athletes, creating a great cardiovascular workout. Because most people like to use these machines they are more likely to workout on a regular basis. Consistent exercise on the elliptical exerciser will help in attaining good overall cardiovascular health.

Elliptical motion feels very natural and compliments normal body movements only making it feel like the workout is easier. The elliptical exerciser is equal or greater than similar equipment such as the treadmill creating a safer workout. It reduces the harmful stress and impact on your muscles and joints.

With time a major concern in our daily lives, an elliptical exerciser can be very desirable. It provides a total body workout utilizing one machine therefore saving time in having to go from machine to machine to achieve the same effect for all the different areas of the body.

Studies have shown that generally the best fitness equipment provides weight bearing exercise that limits impact, has cardiovascular benefits and provides a total body workout. This makes an elliptical exerciser an ideal choice.

Fitness Aerobic - Training
Fitness in general includes both aerobic and anaerobic aspects. According to the priorities of the sportsman, one or the other of the two aspects will be emphasized, but the second one will not be neglected. The purpose of doing fitness exercises is, ideally, to create a complete athlete, able to face various physical and psychological demands. The object of aerobic fitness is the so-called cardio training, a term which refers to the cardio-vascular system and the heart muscle (myocardium). We'll talk about trainings which do not make oxygen duty and which are generally called 'trainings of aerobic effort'. More exactly, they refer to efforts which take a long time (more than 12 minutes) – usually they take between 20 and 60 minutes and they determine acceleration of cardiac frequency and lung ventilation. Efficiency in training requires a frequency between 60-80% of the maximum cardiac frequency (calculated according to the formula 720-age – in years). The typical exercises of aerobic fitness come from classic resistance sports (long distance running, cycling, swimming, fast walking, etc.) and from different aerobic training programs (aerobic gymnastics, step-aerobic, tae-bo, dance, etc.). Aerobic fitness uses specific cardio machines: treadmill, classic or elliptical trainer, stepper, etc. Dosing the aerobic effort depends on the somatic type and the actual objectives of each sportsman. Normally, the ectomorphic and mezomorphic types, which do not accumulate large quantities of subcutaneous adipose tissue, will need to practice for a rather short time (20-30 minutes per training in two or three trainings a week, in non-consecutive days). This time is necessary for realizing an effective cardiac stimulation, without the risk of losing muscular mass. For the...
